Linux Update to SL7.8: Tuesday, 25-Aug-2020 and Wednesday, 26-Aug-2020
Starting Tuesday, we will be updating all CLASSE Scientific Linux (SL) 7 systems from SL 7.7 to SL 7.8 as follows:
- On Tuesday, 25-Aug-2020, all SL7 client systems (e.g. desktops and Compute Farm nodes) will be updated in the morning. New kernels and Nvidia drivers are included in this update, but they will not be be used until the computer is rebooted.
- On Wednesday, 26-Aug-2020, starting at 10:00 AM, the central infrastructure and control system clusters will be updated. During this time, there might be brief pauses in file access and service availability while individual servers are upgraded.
This update is primarily to fix a bug in the clustering software and improve recovery time from power outages. Release notes are available at

ScreenConnect Upgrade: Tuesday, 25-Aug-2020 @ 10:30 AM
On Tuesday, 25-Aug-2020, starting at 10:30 AM, the
ScreenConnect service will be unavailable for up to one hour for a server upgrade. During this time, you will be disconnected from remote sessions and will not be able to start new remote sessions. The
ScreenConnect client software on end-user computers will be upgraded during a future maintenance window.
MATLAB License Renewal for 2020-2021
MATLAB licenses for CLASSE have been renewed until 31-Jul-2021. Most CLASSE installations of MATLAB (including the
AppsAnywhere version) are network-licensed, and they will automatically pick up the new license from our license server. If you have a standalone installation of MATLAB (i.e. it runs without a network connection), please
submit a service request to have your license file manually updated.
Mathematica License Renewal for 2020-2021
Mathematica licenses for CLASSE have been renewed until 30-Aug-2021, and centrally installed versions of Mathematica will automatically pick up the new license from our license server. If you have a home-use license, please
submit a service request for license renewal instructions before your current license expires on 30-Aug-2020.
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our
NewsLetter and via
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made,
CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see
