Accelerator SVN Certificate Update: Tuesday, 04-Feb-2020 @ 10:00 AM

On Tuesday, 04-Feb-2020, at 10:00 AM, the SSL certificate for the accelerator SVN service (accserv) will be updated. This update should be transparent to users, but depending on your SVN client, you might be prompted to accept the new certificate. With this update, we will also now support https://accserv.classe.cornell.edu as a valid URL. The old URL, https://accserv.lepp.cornell.edu, will also remain valid, so there should be no noticeable change for existing links or working areas. For more on accserv and SVN support at CLASSE, please see SubVersion.

ScreenConnect Upgrade: Tuesday, 04-Feb-2020 @ 10:00 AM

On Tuesday, 04-Feb-2020, starting at 10:00 AM, the ScreenConnect service will be unavailable for up to one hour for a server upgrade. During this time, you will be disconnected from remote sessions and will not be able to start new remote sessions. The ScreenConnect client software on end-user computers will be upgraded during a future maintenance window.

Public Service Announcement: Mac Laptop Recall

Apple has initiated a recall for some Apple 15-inch MacBook Pro laptop computers that were sold primarily between September 2015 and February 2017. In a limited number of older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro units, the battery may overheat and pose a fire safety risk. To check if your device is affected, click here. For more detais, see the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission notice.

Vulnerability Scanning of New Web Applications

If you are developing a publicly accessible web application to be run on CLASSE servers, please be aware that CLASSE-IT is required by Cornell University to scan it for vulnerabilities before launch. Please plan accordingly, and submit a ServiceRequest to schedule a scan. If the scan fails or serious vulnerabilities are found, the web application must be made private until the issues are addressed.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
