Windows Firefox Uninstallation: Tuesday, 13-Jul-2021
As previously announced,
Vivaldi has now replaced
Firefox as the primary web browser on CLASSE computers. Therefore, on Tuesday, 13-Jul-2021, we will remove the CLASSE version of Firefox from CLASSE-managed Windows computers. However, if you need to continue using Firefox, you may install a user-managed version by following
these instructions. CLASSE Linux and Mac computers will not be affected at this time. Please submit a
ServiceRequest with any questions or concerns. In particular, please notify us of any job-related websites that still require Firefox, so that we can attempt to reproduce your problem and work towards a solution.
CESR MPM/XBUS Outage: Tuesday, 13-Jul-2021 @ 9:00 AM
There will be maintenance on the W-221 UPS from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon on Tuesday, 13-Jul-2021. This will take down the CESR MPM and XBUS systems, but it should NOT affect the CESR cluster itself.
AppsAnywhere Upgrade: Tuesday, 20-Jul-2021 @ 8:00 AM
On Tuesday, 20-Jul-2021, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 noon, the
AppsAnywhere service will be upgraded. We expect applications to be unavailable for up to an hour somewhere within this window. During that time, any applications that are active might report that there is an interruption; they will resume when the connection returns. Applications that are "offline allowed" will not be affected. If you have any questions or concerns, please submit a
ServiceRequest.
Compute Farm Reduced Capacity: Monday, 26-Jul-2021 @ 8:00 AM
Starting Monday, 26-Jul-2021 @ 8:00 AM, most CLASSE Compute Farm batch queues will be disabled in advance of the Wilson Lab East Module power outage on Wednesday, 28-Jul-2021. Please note that interactive and CHESS queues are excluded from this two-day pre-outage pause; jobs running in these queues will instead be terminated early morning on Wednesday, 28-Jul-2021, when the East Module power is cut.
Any terminated jobs can be resubmitted immediately to the "all.q" and "interactive.q" queues for continued processing throughout the power outage (potentially through Friday, 30-Jul-2021). This continuity of service is made possible by two new farm nodes that have been deployed in Wilson 221. However, farm capacity will be severely degraded, so you may need to wait for resources to become available before your job is scheduled.
CLASSE Network Outage: Tuesday, 03-Aug-2021 @ 9:00 AM
On Tuesday, 03-Aug-2021, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon, there will be a general network outage for a central firewall upgrade. Please
save your work to samba (central filesystems) and
log out of your computer before this time. During this network outage, remote access to CLASSE resources and websites will be unavailable. Please submit a
ServiceRequest with any questions or concerns, and consider subscribing to the
classe-it-news-l mailing list for additional announcements and information.
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our
NewsLetter and via
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made,
CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see
SystemExpectations.
