CLASSE Windows Laptops: Monday Night Updates
If you are using a CLASSE-managed Windows laptop while working from home, please connect to the
CLASSE VPN and plug in the power cord every Monday night through Tuesday morning. Doing so will ensure that your laptop is kept up to date. As usual, these Monday night updates might require multiple reboots of your laptop.
Multiple Login Prompts to CLASSE Services
If you are running
VivaldiBrowser on personal Windows computer from home, you may find that you need to log in repeatedly when accessing CLASSE web services. To fix this problem, please follow the instructions
here.
A Note on Computer Networking
If you need to move your CLASSE computer from one location to another, please submit a
ServiceRequest to verify network availbility at your computer's new location.
Unlike most home networks, the CLASSE network is subdivided into approximately
60 different subnets. Each CLASSE computer and its ethernet network port (in an office wall jack or 8-port switch) must be configured for the same subnet, so it is often not possible to simply move your ethernet cable from one port to another. Given the complexity of our network, changing the configuration of a network port can require rewiring or interaction with CIT and, therefore, takes time to implement.
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our
NewsLetter and via
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made,
CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see
SystemExpectations.
