Reminder: No Backups for Desktops and Laptops
CLASSE-IT does NOT provide local backups of CLASSE-managed desktops and laptops. Instead, please store your important files on our
central filesystems which are backed up according to our
BackupSchedule. If your computer is being replaced or upgraded to Windows 10, please remember that all local files are wiped as part of the process.
Firefox Upgrade Notes
Last Tuesday, 29-Oct-2019, Firefox was upgraded to version 68 on CLASSE-managed Windows and Linux computers. This version contains several changes worth highlighting:
- Firefox Sync is a new Mozilla "cloud service" that will synchronize your Firefox bookmarks, settings, and current state across multiple Firefox instances. A Mozilla account is required to use Firefox Sync. We recommend exercising caution in signing up for such tools because of privacy concerns.
- Firefox has adopted a new profile style. In some cases, existing profiles cannot be migrated and will need to be reset.
- On a related note, we would like to remind you that Firefox profiles are not centrally backed up (see above). To protect your bookmarks, we urge you to back up your Firefox profile to your samba area on a regular basis.
ScreenConnect Upgrade: Tuesday, 12-Nov-2019 @ 10:00 AM
On Tuesday, 12-Nov-2019, starting at 10:00 AM, the
ScreenConnect service will be unavailable for up to one hour for a server upgrade. During this time, you will be disconnected from remote sessions and will not be able to start new remote sessions. The
ScreenConnect client software on end-user computers will be upgraded during a future maintenance window.
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our
NewsLetter and via
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made,
CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see
SystemExpectations.
