Windows Terminal Server Outage: Tuesday, 03-Oct-2023 @ 10:00 AM

On Tuesday, 03-Oct-2023, at 10:00 AM, we will begin an upgrade of the Windows terminal server CHSWANA01 that is expected to last until 5:00 PM. If you have any questions or concerns about this outage, please submit a ServiceRequest.

NoMachine Cloud Server Reconfiguration: Tuesday, 10-Oct-2023

Starting Tuesday 10-Oct-2023, the NoMachine cloud server will be reconfigured so that users only see the computers they need to connect to. This should make things easier for all of you (and our remote CHESS users), decrease the chance of "unapproved" remote use of workstations dedicated to other tasks, and bring our NoMachine setup more in line with how ScreenConnect works.

We have collected lists of which computers users have already logged into, but please submit a ServiceRequest if you lose access to a computer you need access to after next Tuesday.

New Printers in Wilson and Newman Labs

This week, we are replacing the old printers in Wilson 229 and Newman 123 with new Xerox C7130 color multifunction printers. The new printer queues will be named w229_xrx_c7130 and n123_xrx_c7130, and we will update the PrinterList when they become available. At this time, PrinterLogic is having some problems deploying the new queues for Windows users. Until we get this sorted out, please print to the Konica on the third floor - w301_konica_c308 . Please report any problems with the new queues by submitting a ServiceRequest.

macOS Sonoma Release

Apple officially released the macOS Sonoma (macOS 14) operating system on 26-Sep-2023. However, CLASSE services have not yet been evaluated for compatibility with this new operating system, so we are not upgrading CLASSE-managed Macs to Sonoma at this time. Furthermore, it is expected that Apple will drop official support for macOS Big Sur (macOS 11) around November, so CLASSE-managed Macs will be upgraded at that time to newer operating systems as necessary, for compliance with the Cornell University Policy on Information Security.

Duo Muted Push Feature

Duo has introduced a feature designed to help users prevent "mobile push harassment." Going forward, when a user marks an authentication request as fraudulent, Duo will temporarily mute push notifications for 20 minutes, eliminating harassment from repeated scam notifications. While the user’s Duo Mobile app notifications are muted, they can still approve legit requests by directly opening their Duo Mobile app and approving; only the mobile notifications are muted.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
