VMS shutdown tomorrow, Tuesday, July 26
We will be performing a trial shutdown of VMS tomorrow, Tuesday, July 26. This includes LNS61 and LNS62 plus the CESR VMS control cluster: CESR27, CESR23 and their friends. We probably will
NOT bring LNS61 and LNS62 up again. Recent copies of the VMS User disks are available under Linux. Contact the CLASSE IT group for details. If you know of any necessary VMS software or procedures which have not yet been migrated to Linux, please notify the CLASSE IT group immediately.
Linux Tutorial for VMS Users on Wednesday, July 27 at 10 AM
For VMS users who are unfamiliar with Linux, we are organizing a tutorial to be presented by Mike Forster on Wednesday, July 27 at 10 AM in the Wilson Lab East Module Conference Room. All are welcome, but space is limited, so please let us know if you plan to attend. Participants may wish to bring a laptop to practice with. Personal laptops need to be
registered on the LNS Protected network.
CLASSE Drawing Database
The CLASSE drafting office maintains an electronic index of all "official" CLASSE issued drawings. This database has been migrated from VMS to a web application, and is available after logging in with CLASSE credentials at
https://www.classe.cornell.edu/numo/ . For documentation on searching the database, please see
NumoWebApp .
Zoom (a full-featured online web and video conferencing service) coming to Cornell early fall 2016
- Like WebEx, it offers online meetings and webinars. Features include polling, breakout rooms, and a wide variety of audio options, including unlimited toll calling and toll-free dialing options
- Both WebEx and Zoom can be used over the next 12 months. Our goal is to fully transition all WebEx users to Zoom during this period and retire WebEx in July 2017.
The university is making the switch to Zoom because it offers us:
- Higher ease of use
- Higher quality video and audio
- Integration with our other services such as Blackboard, Kaltura, and Skype for Business
- Ease of use on multiple platforms including mobile apps
- Cost-savings to the university
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our
NewsLetter and via
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made,
CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see
SystemExpectations.
