CLASSE Computing Outage: Week of 24-Jul-2023 Through 31-Jul-2023

A building-wide power outage at Wilson Lab is scheduled to occur from Friday, 28-Jul-2023 through Sunday, 30-Jul-2023. Therefore, CLASSE computing services will be interrupted during the week of 24-Jul-2023, with localized disruptions before the power outage followed by a complete computing outage at the end of the week. Also, please note that, although Wilson Lab will regain power on Sunday, 30-Jul-2023, we do not expect to have most CLASSE-IT services restored until end-of-business on Monday, 31-Jul-2023. Additional recovery efforts might extend farther into the week. A detailed schedule of computing outages will appear in next week's CLASSE-IT Newsletter.

During the CLASSE computing outage, the following CLASSE services will not be available from any location, onsite or offsite:

However, central Cornell services will be available, e.g. Cornell email, Teams, Box, Workday, Zoom, etc. The CHESS website and CBB website will also be available.

In advance of the power outage, users may gracefully shut down their computers, although doing so will prevent them from automatically rebooting when power is restored.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
